'I deliberately use powerful and vivid colour as part of the ‘muscle’ of the painting; as the immediate point of contact, that split second where the eye directs the mind and arrests the gaze to look harder and commit to exploring it.......My titles are important. They are not literal but coexist in the same visual space as the paintings, amplifying their feeling and meaning. Like odd things in your peripheral vision. They do not point directly to the integral form of the object but help guide you towards exploration of it. They add to the poetry and drama of the painting and assist its momentum in coming alive.'
